The clothing works, says Dr. Jason Rivers, a Vancouver dermatologist and former head of the Canadian Dermatology Association's National Sun Awareness Program. "In Canada, we've adopted the Australian and New Zealand standards, and we recommend using (the clothing)." It's not surprising that dermatologists are hot on covering up. Over 75,000 Canadians are expected to develop skin cancer this year, with the sun's radiation a major culprit. In the last 20 years, incidence rates for all kinds of skin cancer have more than doubled as we overdose on sun, in part because our summer season is so short.
